It is back-to-back for the globally astute team from the GVSU Padnos International Center as it grabbed first place in the World Affairs Council of Western Michigan (WACWM)’s annual global trivia contest WorldQuest, held at the GVSU Eberhard Center on Wednesday, June 14.
Ferris State University took second, and a team of World Affairs Council All-Stars was awarded third place. WorldQuest is the council’s traditional fun way to conclude the programming year, and the crowd of competitors enjoyed this year’s entertaining co-emcees Martha Gabrielse (Chase Bank) and Dick Gauthier (UFP Industries).
“The Padnos Center team seems to have the right combination of members to cover the broad base of topics we query in WorldQuest,” said WACWM executive director Michael Van Denend.
“The questions cover such a wide range of global topics that it takes a team that collectively has a wide spectrum of world knowledge to come out on top,” he said.
Teams at WorldQuest represent an array of companies and universities that are members of WACWM, along with individual members who are assigned to teams. This year, one of those placed-together teams managed to break into the top three, a rare feat at WorldQuest.
“It is kind of fun for one of our so-called ‘all-star teams’ to place in the competition,” said Van Denend. “This shows what high quality of global learners we have coming to our programs over the course of the year.”
