For the month of October, we invite you to explore the world of Japanese genre movies with two upcoming films:
Join us at the Wealthy Theatre on Monday, October 6 at 8pm for the 1977 Japanese comedy horror film House. Directed and produced by Nobuhiko Obayashi, House is about a schoolgirl traveling with her six friends to her ailing aunt’s country home, where they come face to face with supernatural events as the girls are, one by one, devoured by the home. Continuing our Japanese movie month, we will head to Celebration Cinema North on Sunday, October 19 at 3:20pm for the animated fantasy film Spirited Away written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Spirited Away follows a young girl named Chihiro “Sen” Ogino, who moves to a new neighborhood and inadvertently enters the world of kami (spirits of Japanese Shinto folklore).
